Description

This technical note led by the CA Department of Water Resources provides the water management community with a new methodology for exploring the transition from snow to rain under a warming climate, and discusses the importance of recognizing the vulnerability of watersheds in California. describes the development of the diagnostic indicator quantifying how rain and snow are partitioned for water management documented in the Annual Hydroclimate. The report suggests that their approach is scalable to regional scales and, therefore, could be an informative diagnostic tool for water resources management and model development in other snowmelt-dependent regions. Last, the methodology can also be applied to climate model projections to help inform the development of adaptation strategies to achieve water resource management goals amidst a changing climate.
